The Antarctic treaty signed in 1961. Countries have promised to demilitarise Antarctica to establish it as a zone free of nuclear tests and the disposal of radioactive waste

SSSI’s ( Sites of Special Scientific Interest) to protect the most vulnerable areas eg Penguin breeding grounds

A permit must be obtained. These include sections. Of waste management, risk management and how the applicant will minimise their environmental impact whilst in Antarctica.
What is the Antarctic Act of 1994
It is a Uk act which supports the Antarctic treaty and makes environmental damage punishable by law
What does the IAATO
It rules companies and tries of be environmentally friendly. They regulate the boat campaigns and try to ensure a sustainable future for Antarctica
