What are risk factors for peptic ulcers?
65 yrs>
high dose NSAIDs;
other drugs that increase the risk of gastro-intestinal adverse-effects (e.g. anticoagulants, corticosteroids, selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors);
serious co-morbidity (e.g. cardiovascular disease, hypertension, diabetes, renal or hepatic impairment);
heavy smoker;
excessive alcohol consumption;
previous adverse reaction to NSAIDs;
prolonged requirement for NSAIDs.
what antacid must be avoided in pregnant women and why?
Misoptrolol- can induce labour or abortion
What is treatment options in peptic ulcer?
PPI
H2 Antagonist
sucralfate
Why should sucralfate be avoided in those with feeding tubes?
reports if bezoar formation, used in caution in those seriously ill, enteral feeds or delayed gastric emptying.

PPI- omeprazole in severe or complicated reflux disease

Lifestyle changes;
change of frequency and volume of feed; thickened formula can be used
