Ant-icing, De-icing And Rain Protection Flashcards
All critical surfaces must be clear of contamination. What are the critical surfaces being referred too?
Upper and lower wing surfaces, fin and horizontal stabiliser
In reference to icing systems, what is bleed air?
Hot air tapped from engines/APU and fed under skin of panels (primarily leading edges)
In reference to icing systems, what are electrical heating mats?
Fixed thermal mats on the outside of leading edges
In reference to icing systems, what is fluid is used to decontaminate?
Glycol, sprayed from tiny holes on the leading edges
In reference to icing systems, what are inflatable boots?
Black sections on leading edges which inflate/expand to break off ice.
How does an electromechanical ice detector work?
Change in resonance indicates ice forming on the sensor
How does a mechanical ice detector work?
Aneroid capsule has a tube which protrudes into the airflow, if the tube becomes book, the air pressure inside the aneroid capsule changes
How does an electrical ice detector work?
Contamination causes a large voltage difference between the detector loop and a reference loop
