ANS Pharm Flashcards
Drug Target Activity
To initiate effect in cell, drug or natural ligand combines with a molecular receptor on the cell surface
Efferent portion of nervous system
Somatic: consciously controlled actions (mvmt, respiration, posture)
ANS: Sympathetic and parasympathetic
Parasympathetic NT and receptors
NT: ACh
Receptor: nAChR, MAChR
Sympathetic NT and Receptor
NT: NE, Epi, DA, ACh
Receptor: alpha, beta, nAChR, mAChR
Acetylcholine
The major NT of the parasympathetic nervous system
All preganglionic autonomic fibers
All postganglionic parasympathetic fibers
Few postganglionic sympathetic fibers (sweat glands)
Norepinephrine
The major NT of the sympathetic nervous system
The vast majority of postganglionic sympathetic fibers
Epinephrine
Synthesis only occurs in the adrenal medulla and in a few epinephrine-containing neuronal pathways in the brainstem
Dopamine
NE and Epi precursor
Acts on the CNS adn renal vascular smooth muscle
Cholinergic Neurotransmission
ACh synthesis
Ach storage
Ach release
