ANOVA-analysis of variance Flashcards
Why might ANOVA be carried out?
To compare data between multiple groups as opposed to just two.
It is only after this stage that individual differences should be taken into account
What does the p-value in ANOVA tell us?
how much evidence there is that there is some variability between groups
What are post-hoc pairwise comparisons?
They can be used after we have made an overall assessment ex. after ANOVA.
If an overall variation is identified via ANOVA, this test can be used to compare each group against each other, to find variation between individuals
What are the assumptions of ANOVA?
1) data in each group are normally distributed
2) the variance is constant across groups
3) the data points are independent of each other (separate groups are used)
