Speak to the significance of the extended metaphor present in 1-3
The metaphor is effective in explaining how enjoyable the seccs is between Hathaway and Shakespeare. In the same way that these faraway places are filled with magic and wonder and are breathtaking , so to is the seccs and intimacy shared between the lovers
Significance of using poetry in describing the looorve
Duffy links writing with the body , and more specifically , with sex . In this poem writing is like sex , both of which involve repetition, forms, nouns and verbs
Pros vs Poetry
Prose is your everyday typical written language. It’s what you read and write all the time .It has no form, the line breaks don’t matter, and there’s no rhythm. It’s the opposite of poetry, which has form, meaningful line breaks and (sometimes) regular rhythms. By comparing the two, the writer emphasizes the idea that the second best bed is more pleasant to be in as opposed to the best bed
Explain the words are shooting stars metaphor
In this metaphor ,words are compared to shooting stars. This is effective in making the words come alive as though they are objects that Anne can truly feel and see. It emphasizes how significant Shakespeare words are to her and the great extent to which she truly thinks she can feel them in their entirety
‘Some nights I dreamed he’d written me’
She dreams she exists because he exists ( he created her as a fragment rod his imagination)
Volta
In the other bed …
Rhyming couplet
Hathway’s memory of their love is a far more fitting legacy than any casket and the memories of the life she led with Shakespeare is the best type of gift she could have been left.
