Ankle: Rearfoot Exam Flashcards
What does the evidence say regarding people with suboptimal static foot alignment and pain?
There is limited evidence to support foot orthoses improving short term outcomes for PFPS and ‘shin splints’.
-may not be due to static foot alignment.
Why is static foot alignment not a great indicator of foot function in movement patterns?
People usually wear shoes.
Where is the strongest evidence in foot orthoses with PFPS?
In the short term - 6 weeks, compared to flat inserts.
Which toe should make the last contact during push off?
2nd.
What is the relationship between lateral heal strike and pronation?
Greater lateral heal strike leads to more medial toe off & pronation.
What passes in the groove of the undersurface of the sustentaculum tali? What ligament attaches anteriorly?
FHL
Spring ligament
What ligament runs from the medial malleolus to the medial tubercle of the talus?
Posterior tibiotalar ligament.
What does the spring ligament attach to distally?
The navicular tuberosity.
What is the function of the spring ligament?
Flexible support for head of talas during talar adduction and PF (pronation).
Where can you find the anterior tibiotalar ligament?
Dimple anterior to medial malleolus.
Where is the peroneal tubercle and what passes above and below it?
Distal and anterior to the apex of the lateral mallelus
BELOW
-peroneus longus
ABOVE
-peroneus brevis
With the achilles tendon, where is a common site of bursitis?
At the insertion.
