Ankle Fractures Flashcards
1
Q
Recommended radiographs for evaluating an ankle fracture (5)?
A
- AP
- Lateral
- Mortise
- External rotation stress view
- Full-length tibia, or proximal tibia- r/o Maisonneuve type fracture
2
Q
Radiographic findings of a syndesmotic injury (3)?
A
- Decreased tibiofibular overlap - at max overlap
— < 6 mm on AP
— < 1 mm on mortise - Increased tibiofibular clear space - measure 1 cm above joint
— > 6 mm on AP and mortise - Increased medial clear space
— > 5 mm on external rotation stress view - only one of the three that is predictive of deep injury
3
Q
Normal Ankle ROM (Dorsi and plantarflexion)
A
Dorsiflexion - 30 degrees
Plantarflexion - 45 degrees
4
Q
Ligaments that make up the ankle syndesmosis (4)
A
- AITFL - anterior inferior talofibular ligament
- PITFL - posterior inferior talofibular ligament
- Inferior transverse talofibular ligament
- Interosseous ligament
5
Q
Ligaments that make up the deltoid ligament (3 superficial and 2 deep)
A
Superficial
- Naviculotibial ligament
- Superficial talotibial ligament
- Tibiocalcaneal ligament
Deep
- Deep anterior talotibial ligament
- Deep posterior talotibial ligament
6
Q
Lateral ligamentous complex of the ankle (3)
A
- ATFL - Anterior talofibular ligament
- PTFL - Posterior talofibular ligament
- CFL - Calcaneofibular ligament
