- Used to describe Goneril’s actions.
* She’s acting like a vulture waiting for Lear to die so she can inherit his Kingdom.
How is Serpent used in King Lear?
- Poisonous snake; devil like.
* In Act 2 scene 4 Lear says Goneril ‘struck me with her tongue,/Most serpent like’.
What is Lear referring to when he describes Gonerils ‘tongue’ as ‘most serpent like’
He is referring to the fact that having ungrateful or thankless children hurts him more then being bitten by a snake would.
How does Albany use serpent imagery?
•In Act 5 scene 3 Albany calls Edmund a ‘gilded serpent’. Basically calling him evil (serpent) hidden under the wealthy attire.
How is a Pelican used as imagery in King Lear?
- Birds of prey. In Act 3 scene 4, Lear ‘scolds’ himself for fathering Regan and Goneril.
