How are animals different to humans?
In a sense humans are animals. However most people believe that humans are on a higher level than animals - Humans are more intelligent, they have the ability to make descisions, form opinions, think about the consequences of our actions, have complex societies and create religions.
How should we treat animals?
Most people say that just because the status of animals is lower than that of humans, does not mean humans should mistreat them.
What are animal rights?
Animal rights are the beliefs that animalshave a dignity and should be free from cruelty and exploitation.
How are animals protected?
Animal rights day s celebrated on December tthe 10th every year, letters are sent to Mps, protest marches are performed and charity organisations such as the RSPCA and WWF helpcampaign for better anmal rights.
What are religious attitudes to animals?
Religions do not teach that animals have the same rights as humans but they should be protected, managed and caredd for with respect.All religions except Buddhism believe that God created the world and it deserves respect.
What is the Sanctity of Life?
The belief that life is sacred because it is God given.
What is Responsibility?
Duty, the belief that we are in charge of our own actions.
What are some Buddhist views on animal rights?
Buddhists attach great importance to the natural world. They see all living being as connected to and dependant on each other. Animals sould be treated well because they are part of Samsara. They also believe that animals hold the re-incarnatd souls of humans. One of the five Buddhist precepts is to never harm a living thing.
What are some Christian views on animal rights?
Christians believe that God created the world, including animals and people and put humans in charge. Chistians believe they have a duty to care for all creation, including animals. Jesus spoke about the value of every living creature, even each individual sparrow (Luke 12:6)
What does Extinction mean?
Extinction is when all members of a species have died out and it will never exist on Earth again.
What are some positives of Zoos?
They provide entertainment, allow humans to studyy animals, educate people and help save species from extinction.
What are some negatives of Zoos?
Some times they don not provide sutible natural habitats for the animals. SOmetimes animals are kept in small cages and suffer stress. Some animals find it hard to adjust to Zoo life.
When did the Assis Declarations happen and what are they?
On the 25th anniversary of the creation of WWF leaders of all six major religions met in Assisi, Italy (The home of St Francis the St of animals) and made statements about how people should act responcibly for the welfare of the Earth.
When did the Ohito Declaration happen and What was it?
In 1995 in Ohito, Japan world religions issued some principles.
They recognised the need to treat animals and the enviroment with respect.
That sustaining enviromental life is a religious responcibility.
That nature needs to be treated with respect and compassion
When was he RSPCA founded and what does it do?
The RSPCA was started in 1824 by Christians in responce to cruelty to animals.
