A

The process by which an egg develops without being fertilized. The resulting adult is haploid. Form of asexual reproduction.

Advantages of Asexual Reproduction

A
  • enables animals living in isolation to reproduce without a mate
  • generation of offspring is quick
  • no expenditure of energy-maintaining reproductive systems or hormonal cycles
  • offsprings are identical clones of the parent, this is advantageous when the environment is stable
