Animal + Plant Cells Flashcards
What is an Animal Cell made up of?
A Nucleus, cytoplasm, ribosomes, mitochondria, cell membrane and a cell wall
What is a Plant Cell made up of?
Cytoplasm, chloroplast, vacuole, cell membrane, mitochondria, nucleus, cell wall and ribosomes
What is the Nucleus?
It contains genetic material, including DNA, and it controls the cell’s activities
What is the function if the Cell Wall?
It strengthens the cell and supports the plant, and it is made from cellulose fibres
What is the Cell Membrane?
Its structure is permeable to some substances but not to others. It therefore controls the movement of substances in and out of the cell
What is Cytoplasm?
A jelly-like material that contains organelles. It is where many of the chemical reactions happen
What is Chloroplast?
Organelles that contains the green pigment, chlorophyll, which absorbs light energy for photosynthesis. Contains the enzymes needed for photosynthesis
What are Mitochondria?
Organelles that contain the enzymes for respiration, and where most energy is released in respiration
What is a Permamant Vacuole?
Filled with cell sap to help keep the cell rigid
What are Ribosomes?
Tiny organelles where protein synthesis occurs
