Nutrient Additives: Roughages, Concentrates, Supplements
Material grown to be fed to livestock and poultry to support life, may also refer to feed components.
Feed
Feed material that contains >18% crude fiber and are low in energy content (<60% total digestible nutrients).
Roughages
High in energy content (>60% total digestible nutrients) and low in crude fiber (<18%).
Concentrate
Energy feeds; animal protein feeds; plant protein feeds.
Concentrate
Feedstuff mixed with a primary grain or roughage (provide all nutrients) to support the form of production.
Supplements
Amino acid; mineral; vitamin.
Supplements
6-10% crude protein; <0.9% calcium content.
Grass
10.5% or higher crude protein; >0.9% calcium content.
Legumes and other forages
Trichomes in nodes.
Guinea grass
Trichomes in whole culm.
Para grass
Rough leaves that has no trichomes in the culm.
Napier grass
Presence of roots at nodes.
Star grass
Presence of trichomes at nodes.

Madre de cacao; ipil-ipil; centrosema; madre de agua.
Legumes and other forages
Exceptionally high in energy and contains variable amount of nutrients.
Energy feeds
Derived from the end products of meat packaging, dairy processing, and marine industries (>47% crude protein; >1.0% calcium; >1.5% phosphorus; <2.5% crude fiber).
