Define disease.
Any deviation from a normal health of an animal.
Why keep an animal healthy?

What are the causes of diseases?
Germs, parasites, injury, genetics, poor nutrition.
What are germs?
Bacteria, viruses, Protozoa.
What are parasites?
Worms, insects, etc.
What is the easiest fix when it comes to causes of disease?
Poor nutrition.
What are some visual signs of disease?
Body posture, weight loss, not eating or drinking, isolated, sounds, trauma.
What are some Non visual signs of disease?
Vital signs: TPR temp, pulse, respiration. Blood types and counts. Mucus membranes and tissue cultures.
How do diseases occur?
Sprodic, enzoodic, epizootic, pan zoonotic.
What are some non infectious disease?
Injury, poison, poor nutrition, birth defects, not caused by an organism.
What are some thing that leads to infectious diseases?
Living organisms like:
- bacteria
- viruses
- Protozoa
Describe bacteria characteristics.
They are most common cause of disease. They live in a wide range of conditions. Can be external or internal. Both helpful and harmful.
