animal ethical considerations Flashcards
1
Q
how many ethical consideration are there
A
7
2
Q
what are they
A
- replacement
- species and strain
- the number of animals (reduce)
- pain and distress (refine)
- housing
- rewards, deprivation and aversive stimuli
- anaesthesia, analgesia(pain relief) and euthanasia
3
Q
explain replacement
A
- if there are alternative available other than using lab animals then these should be used
- for example, video recordings
4
Q
species and strain
A
- choosing the species/ strain that is the least likely to suffer pain
- whether they were socially housed or participated in other studies
5
Q
number of animals (reduce)
