Animal cell specialisation Flashcards
what is term specialisation meant by? (list three statements)
- most animal cells are specialised
- they have adaptations which help them carry out a particular function
- when cells become specialise they are called diffrentiation
what is sperm cell job?
to join with a ovum to fertilise
what does sperm cell contain
nucleus
name three ways sperm cells are specialised
1) sperm cell have a longtail which help them swim to the ovum they are also streamlined which helps make this easier
2) sperm cell contain mitochondria. this provides the with the energy they need
3) sperm cells contain enzymes which allow them to digest their way through the outer layer of the ovum.
what is job of nerve cell?
to send electrical pulses around the body
what is 4 thing nerve cell has to help send electrical impulses
1) axon
2) myelin
3) synapes
4) dendrites
axon
axon carries electrical impluses from one part of the body to another.
myelin
Myelin insulates the axon and speeds up the transmission of nerve impluses
Synapes
end of a axon is synapse
- synapse are junction which allow the impulse to pass to one nerve cell to another
dendrites
increase the surface area so other nerve cells can connect more easily.
muscle cells
contract ( get shorter)
they get shorter because they contain protein fibres which change their length. when they contract these protein fibres shorten decreasing their length of the cell
how do muscle cells do their work?
muscle cells are also packed with mitochondria to provide energy for muscle contraction.
muscle cells work together to form muscle tissue
