What is Innate/Instinct and give an example?
Things that an animal has known since day.
Ex. A baby will instinctively grab your finger when set on their hand.
What is fixed action patterns and give an example?
Series of actions based on a fixed action that a species does all the time
Ex. A goose pulling an egg back under them to sit on it but they will do it with a lightbulb because it is the same shape and size.
What is imprinting and give an example?
Something that happens in critical point in lifetime(when they are young).
Ex. Salmon imprint on a creek that they are born in so they know which creek to go back to later in life.
What is associate learning and give an example?
Associate a stimuli with a effect.
Ex. If you ring and give a dog food and every time they drool overtime the dog will salivate by hearing the bell ring.
What is trail and error and give an example?
Teach so when they do something they get rewarded.
Ex. Dog training
What is habituation and give an example?
Some stimuli over and over and over which leads to animals ignoring.
Ex. If you give a sea anemone shrimp it will eat it and then you give it plastic, it will eat it and then you give it plastic again it will eat it and if you give it to them again then they won’t eat it.
What is observation learning and give an example?
Watching another organism to learn what works for them (mirrored neurons).
Ex. Teaching a dog tricks with another dog next to them that knows the tricks and gets rewarded the other dog will catch on and to the trick so they get rewarded too.
What is insight and give an example?
Finding a smarter way to survive.
Ex. If you put a chimpanzee in a room with a banana hanging from the ceiling and three boxes then the chimp will figure out how to stack the boxes to reach the banana.
