Animal and plant cells. Flashcards
What is the cell membrane?
In both, a double layer that supports and protects the cell. Allows material in and out of the cell.
what is the Lysosome?
In both, contains digestive enzymes that destroy damaged organelles and invaders.
What is Cytoplasm?
In both, jelly like fluid that surrounds and protects the organelles.
What is the Nucleus?
In both, the control centre of the cell. Also contains the DNA.
What is the Nucleus Membrane?
In both, surrounds the nucleus.
What is the Nuclear Membrane?
Surrounds the nucleus.
What is the Nucleolus?
In both, is a round structure in the nucleus that makes ribosomes.
What is the Vacuole?
In both, stores food and water.
What is the Golgi body?
In both, processes and packages materials for the cell.
What is Mitochondria?
In both, the ‘powerhouse,’ breaks down food to produce energy in the form of ATP.
What is Rough ER?
In both, build and transports substances through the cell and has ribosomes on it.
What is Smooth ER?
In both, builds up and transports substances through the cell but does not have ribosomes on it.
What is the Ribosome?
In both, helps make proteins for the cell.
What is the Cell Wall?
In plant, gives shape and protection to the plant cell.
What is Chloroplast?
In plant, changes sunlight into sugar for the plant cells and contains a green pigment called chlorophyll.
