Animal and plant cell Flashcards
What is an organelle?
Tiny parts within the cell that have specific functions(jobs)
What is the cytoplasm?
Gel-like fluid inside a cell where all the organelles are held
Cell Membrane
Controls what enters and leaves the cell
Nucleus
Contains DNA which controls the function of a cell
Vacuoles
Stores food, water and waste
Lysosomes
Breaks down food and worn out plant cells - Animal cell
Mitochondria
Produces energy for the cell
Nucleolus
Inside the nucleus - produces ribosomes
Ribosomes
Builds amino acid to create proteins
Golgi apparatus/body
Packages and distributes proteins and minerals
Endoplasmic Reticulum(smooth and rough) AKA: ER
Carries proteins and minerals via passageways
Cell wall
Ridgid outer layer of the cell - Plant cell
Chloroplasts
Produces food for cell using sunlight - Plant cell
