Animal And Olant Adaptation Flashcards
Physiological adaptions
Physical and chemical processes that take place inside the body of an organism
Structural adaption
Organism bodies plan; The way and parts are constructed or arranged
Behavioral adaption
Activity or action that generally helps an organism to survive in its environment
Adaptation
Characteristic or trait that helps an organism to survive and reproduce in its environment
Metamorphosis
Change in form from one stage to the next and the lifecycle of an organism as from the Catapillar to that pupa and from the pupa but to the adult butterfly
Migration
The regular periodic journey of an animal from one place to another and back again for the purpose of feeding or reproducing
Hibernation
A state of greatly reduced body activity that occurs during the winter
Gills
And internal structure in animals that removes oxygen from the water
Lateral line system
Sensitive receptor system that enables fish to detect a gentle current and vibrations in the water
Instinct
A behavior that an animal is born with and correctly performs the first time
Learning
The process that leads to a change in behavior based on experience and practice
Life cycle
The stages in life of the animal as it grows, develops, and matures to reproduce the next gen
cellular respiration
Process in which oxygen combined with glucose to produce carbon dioxide and water and release energy occurs in both plants and animals
Vascular tissue
And an internal system of tubelike structures that carry water and minerals and food; provide support to body of plants. Composed of xylem and phloem
Xylem
A network of long thin tubes that carry water and dissolved minerals from the roots to different parts of the plant
