  • In February that year, an uprising in York kills the governor and Edgar Aethling comes down from Scotland to join. Norman sheriff and garrison are attacked.

He raced north and swiftly ended the rebellion. He lays waste to the entire city and builds castles, and then just goes on to celebrate Easter. He leaves York to William FitzOsbern.

What happened at the Ely rebellion in 1070?

A

Hereward the Wake returns from exile and starts rebellion for lost land. He works with the Danes to raid Peterborough Abbey, but the Danes take the treasure and leave. Morcar and his men then join Herewards cause to Ely, but after the Normans beat them Morcar gets captured and Hereward was never heard of again.
