Angles Flashcards
What are:
1. Alternate angles?
2. Corresponding angles?
3. Co-interior angles?
- Alternate angles are equal in size and lie on opposite sides of the transversal. They resemble a Z.
- Corresponding angles are equal in size and are on opposing sides of the transversal, however they resemble an F.
- Co-interior angles add up to 180 degrees and look similar to a C.
What is a supplement and a complement?
A supplement is the angle required to make 180 degrees. For example, if you had a 100 degree angle then the supplement would be 80 degrees.
A complement is the angle required to make a 90 degree angle. If you had a 60 degree angle, then the complement needed would be 30 degrees.
What is a transversal?
A transversal is the line that cuts two parallel lines.
What are:
1. angles at a point?
2. the angle sum of a quadrilateral?
3. the angle sum of a triangle?
- Angles at a point are all the angles necessary to make 360 degrees.
- The angle sum of a quadrilateral will always equal 360 degrees.
- A triangle’s angle sum will make 180 degrees.
What are the 3 types of triangles and what do they do?
- Equilateral triangles: Each side is exactly the same angle (60 degrees)
- Isosceles triangles: 2 sides are equal and one side is different.
- Scalene triangles: Each side is completely different.
What are adjacent angles and vertically opposite angles?
- Adjacent angles are two angles that are directly next to each other.
- Vertically opposite angles are created when two straight lines intersect. They are the exact same.
What are the conditions for lines to be parallel?
- They must be straight and have a pair of corresponding angles, co-interior angles and alternate angles (If the parallel lines have a transversal)
- Parallel lines must be drawn with an arrow on each.
