Angles Flashcards
What are angles at a point?
Angles at a point are all the angles that add up to make 360 degrees.
Usually shown with Greek symbols.
What are the angles sums of:
1. A triangle
2. A quadrilateral (Square)
- The angles of a triangle add up to 180 degrees
- The angles of a square add up to 360 degrees
What is:
1. A transversal?
2. A supplement?
3. A complement?
- A transversal is the line that cuts two parallel lines.
- A supplement is the angle required to make 180 degrees. For example, if an angle was 100 degrees, the supplement would be 80 degrees.
- A complement is the angle required to make 90 degrees, or a right angle.
What are:
1. Adjacent angles?
2. Complementary angles?
3. Supplementary angles?
- Adjacent angles are angles that are directly next to each other.
- Complementary angles are 90 degree angles.
- Supplementary angles are 180 degree angles.
What are:
1. Corresponding angles?
2. Alternate angles?
3. Co-interior angles?
- Corresponding angles are the same size on the other side of a transversal. Also known as F angles.
- Alternate angles are the same size on the opposite side of a transversal. Also known as Z angles.
- Co-interior angles are on the same side of the transversal and add up to make 180 degrees. Also known as C angles.
What are the conditions for two lines to be parallel?
-Parallel lines will never meet
-Parallel lines with a transversal will create 2 equal alternate angles AND 2 supplementary co-interior angles.
What are some facts about…
1. Isosceles triangles?
2. Equilateral triangles?
3. Exterior angle of a triangle?
- Isosceles angles have 1 pair of equal sides and one side that is not equal.
- Every side is equal in equilateral triangles.
- The two interior remote angles equal the exterior angle.
What are vertically opposite angles?
Two straight angles that intersect and create two pairs of identical angles on opposite sides. For example, the letter X has 4 vertically opposite angles.
