Angle Relationships Flashcards
Parallel Lines
Two lines with the same slope that never intersect
Transversal
A line that intersects two parallel lines
Exterior
Outside of parallel lines
Interior
Inside of parallel lines
Corresponding Angles
Angles in the same relative position: Angles in the matching corners (congruent)
Vertical Angles
Pairs of opposite angles formed by intersecting lines (congruent)
Congruent
Equal
Supplementary
Adds to 180 degrees
Linear Pair
Adjacent angles formed by intersecting lines that add up to 180 degrees (supplementary)
Adjacent
Right next to
Alternate Interior Angles
Angles inside the parallel lines and on opposite sides of the transversal (congruent)
Alternate Exterior Angles
Angles outside the parallel lines and on opposite sides of the transversal (Congruent)
Same Side Interior Angles
Angles inside the parallel lines and on the same side of the transversals (Supplementary)
Same Side Exterior Angles
Angles outside the parallel lines and on the same side of the transversal (Supplementary)
Alternate
Different sides of the transversal
If you add all of the interior angles of a triangle what degree measure do you get?
180 degrees
Exterior Angles
formed by one side of a triangle and the extension of an adjacent side of the triangle (on the outside)
Remote Interior Angles
Two interior angles that are NOT ADJACENT to, or touching, the exterior angles.
Similar Triangles
Are the same shape but not the same size. Similar Triangles have proportional sides meaning the RATIO of corresponding sides are EQUAL
Angle-Angle Criterion
If two pairs of corresponding angles in a pair of triangle are CONGRUENT then the two triangles are SIMILAR
Which two angles can you add to get the exterior angle?
The two REMOTE INTERIOR angles.
