Angle of Climb Flashcards
chapter 6
What is the climb angle?
It is the angle of the aircrafts flight path measured against the horizon (degrees)
What is the climb gradient?
It is the ratio of vertical height divided by the distance flown through the air, expressed as a percentage.
What is Vx?
Speed for the best angle of climb
Where is Vx for a Turbo-Jet?
Vmd
Is Vx faster or slower than Vmd for a fixed pitch propeller?
Much slower (close to Vmp)
What is excess thrust?
It is the available thrust minus the drag?
What is excess power?
The difference between power available and power required
What happens to climb performance with a higher forward airspeed?
It reduces
What happens to Vx with a reduction in excess thrust?
Reduces
What happens to Vx with an increase in weight?
Reduces
In a Turbo-Jet at high temperatures what happens to RoC
It reduces due to the decrease in thrust
For a propeller what happens to Vx with an increase in temperature?
It increases
For a propeller what happens to the angle of climb with an increase in temperature?
Reduces
What happens to angle of climb when lowering the flaps or landing gear?
Reduces alongside Vx
If an engine fails what happens to the AoC and Vx?
reduces
