Angiography (Pandya) Flashcards
What is angiography?
study of the vascular system via injection of contrast- arterial or venous (catheter-based)
What type on contrast is nephrotoxic?
iodinated contrast
2 types of contrast media for angio:
1) iodinated/noniodinated
2) Gadolinium
Preparation for an angiography:
NPO after midnight
- check for prior iodine based and seafood allergies
- check kidney function
(T/F) you should make sure pt is not in acute renal failure before angio
TRUE
Coronary angio’s can visualize what?
coronary artery stenosis–> narrowing in BVs- degree of stenosis
If a coronary angio can’t clearly determine presence or absence of atherosclerosis, what should you use?
CT or MRI
what’s fluorescein?
fluorescent dye injected that highlights blood vessels in the eye
microangiography is used for?
to visualize tiny blood vessels
Neurovascular angiography utilizes..?
utilizes digital subtraction angio to visualize arterial and venous supply to the brain for coil embolism of aneurysms and AVM gluing
what would a peripheral angio be used for?
peripheral vascular disease
Coronary stents/filters are accessed through?
through the common femoral artery or common femoral vein
Indications for IVC filter (for DVT):
- at risk for DVT/PE w/ absolute CI to anticoagulants
2. recurrent DVT/PE in spite of anticoagulation
Sx of aortic dissection:
- sudden severe abdominal pain
- loss of consciousness
- shortness of breath
- Sx similar to stroke
- weak pulse in or arm or thigh compared to other
- leg pain/paralysis
- difficulty walking
Renal artery stenosis is..?
narrowing of one of the renal arteries, most often caused by atherosclerosis or fibromuscular dysplasia
