Angina Packet - Pharm Flashcards
what is most likely the main chemical mediator of anginal pain?
adenosine
adenosine stimulates angina mainly by doing what?
stimulating a1 receptors in cardiac afferent nerve endings
what type of angina is classified as occurring while or just after the heart has a need for extra oxygen?
stable or classical angina
with stable angina what does the ST segment look like?
depressed
what type of angina is characterized by coronary artery spasms as the main cause?
variant angina
what is the ST segment like in variant angina?
elevated!
what is the standard procedure for how to take nitrates?
take then lie down - take at night
what is the most common sequelae for nitrates?
HA
are arteries or veins more sensitive to vasodilation of nitrates?
veins
what is the method of elimination of NG?
oxidized gluthathione
do other methylaxanthine PDE inhibitors cause a potentiation of effect with NG like sildenafil does?
no. drugs such as theophylline do not cause similar interaction
for which type of angina are beta blockers such as propranolol a good idea?
typical - and NEVER use for variant b/c NE at the alpha receptors cause v/c
what order kinetics applies to the elimination of the drug (beta adrenergic agonists) from the plasma? what order applies to the decline in receptor block?
first order; zero order. the result is that after a few hours the blood concentration will fall more than the receptor block. so the effects seen from these drugs are really from the receptor block a lot of the times
how are CCBs eliminated from the body?
via the liver; cyp450
