What is Stable Angina?
Triggered by Activity
Cause: CAD
Treatment: DECREASE oxygen demand of the heart
What is Variant Angina?
Triggered ANYTIME
Cause: Coronary Vasospasms
Treatment: INCREASE oxygen supply with vasodilation of the coronary arteries
What is Unstable Angina?
MEDICAL EMERGENCY!
Treatment: As an MI until proven otherwise!
What are the two goals of anti-angina drugs?
1) DECREASE O2 demands of ♥
- Reduce HR, contractility, or Preload/Afterload
2) INCREASE O2 supply
- Vasodilate coronary arteries
What are the 4 Drug Classes used for Angina?
1) Organic Nitrates: Nitroglycerin
2) Beta-Blockers: Metoprolol
3) CCBs: Verapamil, Nifedipine, Diltiazem
4) Ranolazine (Ranexa)
