Anesthesia quiz Flashcards
What is MAC for iso vs sevo?
Iso 1.28-1.63
Sevo 2.1-2.58
Which volatile gas has a higher solubility? What does that mean?
Iso 1.4 (vs sevo 0.6) - this means that iso favors being in the blood which delays increase of partial pressures in the brain
What are the cardio effects of gas ax (3 things)?
- DEPRESS cardiac function (decrease CO, art BP, GFR, and increases PPCo2)
- Decrease contractility
- Vasodilation
What is your most common vaporizer setting to start ax?
2% then decrease
What does MAC mean?
Mean alveolar concentration (the potency of the drug)
What decreases MAC? (10 things!)
- Acidosis (severe)
- Hypothermia
- Pregnancy
- Older age
- Pre-meds (ACE reduces by 40%)
- Induction agents
- Local Ax
- Severe anemia
- Hypoxemia
- Sepsis
What increases MAC? (2 things)
- Hyperthermia
2. Hypernatremia
What are the main effects (2) of opioids?
Analgesia, increased sedation
What are the side effects (5) of opioids?
- Emesis (morphine, hydro)
- Bradycardia
- Hypothermia
- Respiratory depression
- Histamine release (morphine, meperidine)
What drugs are the full mu opioids (5)?
Morphine, meperidine, methadone, hydromorphone, fentanyl
What drugs is the partial mu opioid?
Buprenorphine
What is the agonist-antagonist opioid? How is it different than the others?
Butorphanol - synthetic, less resp depression
What are the main effects of acepromazine (2)?
Mild to mod sedation, tranquilization
What are other good effects of ace (3)?
- Antiemetic
- Antispasmodic
- Weak antihistamine properties
What is the onset of action of ace?
30-60mins
