Son and family also living with them in original house with original front dwellings

The Design Brief- how is contact made, how brief developed, what information discussed?

A

Clear communication with client = talk with her/ focus on home
- FOCUS on Garden - presence over house - central all connected to garden + client gave imagery/inspirtation e.g terrocotta pot
-wants farm house, and want everything out on display
-multi-generational house with son and family living with her
Budget discussed= tight budget which influenced black outline
-Site visits= needed with brief - list constraints

Research and Inspiration - how did designers gain inspiration, what else did designers research before beginning the design process, what sources did designers use for research?

A

Terracotta pot - research on looks/aesthetics but also how retains heat and turns green after while= farm +
- Garden space and farm houses= research - to get thinking research farmhouses
- Research dun direction= client house face nothern on southern to get lots of light
- Window glazing= ripples through materials so not look
research on materials and use together

A

Terracotta= change temp quickly= use it as an absorption retain heat breeze then blast it off - esky - insulation behind = become green so part of garden

Shared house= can open window used a vent
-Murphy bed for guests/ flexible space - reference to terracotta- windows facing west so winter sun

Shared laundry in shared house= great use of space= connect to garden
Centeral circualtion path connecting all places

3 access doors from different areas.

Sky lights=face east = morning light
Windows look out to garden connecting garden as center
Brick wall comes through the building - low celling to high = garden!
Study Space= look out to garden but close to turn into guest bedroom
Client wakes from skylight naturally
Bathroom compacted= windows - make bigger = window in bath connect to city/sky
-doors within house= seamless

Materials= bring outdoor inside - Timber lining, wide range of materials brick stone, terracotta

First cottage= demolished part of original building but kept original dwellings north cleared walls- living room and kitchen connect with sun and the community
- go starlight to family hall
original central corridor/hallway expend to back connecting all spaces= from front of cottage through garden to new house to the laneway = create paths and balance

Natural Light in circulation paths

Black outline/material = cost effective + bring materials together

Always connected to shared space= garden = clients
