ANCOVA Flashcards
ANCOVA
compares several means adjusted for the effect of one or more other variables
covarients
continuous variables tha are not part of the main experimental manipulation by have an effect on the dependent variable
how do you check independence of covarients?
ANOVA or t-test
why use covariants?
reduce within-group error varience
eliminate confounds
what assumptions are present in ANCOVA
independence of covariant
homogeneitry of regression slops
sidak corrections
similiar to bonferroni but less conservative, would use if concerned about lack of power
homogenity of regression slops
if you plot a scatterplot for each group of participants w/covarient and the slops all look the same then the assumption has been met
what are the consequences of not meetin gthe homogenity of regression slopes assumption
increase type 1 error rate
what do you use to calculate effect size for ANCOVA
partial eta sequard
partial eta squared
looks at the proportion of variance that a variable explains that is NOT EXPLAINED by other variables in the analysis
