Surgery was practiced on wounded soldiers and gladiators by Medici (surgeons in the Army).

Water pipes were often built from lead which caused lead poisoning. Also, in York, the sewers were too large so water didn’t flow quickly enough to clear water in the bottom of the sewers.

Because he had to dissect the bodies of pigs and apes instead of humans as the Catholic Church banned dissections.

Galen told doctors to observe and examine patients carefully, taking their pulse and detailed notes of symptoms.
