A person who acted as head of the government.

What is the function of a Praetor?
These government workers acted as judges in ancient Rome and interpreted the laws.
Praetors were essential for maintaining justice.
Who were Tribunes?
Government officials who represented the voices of the plebeians.
They had the power to veto decisions that they felt were harmful to the plebeians.
What is a Triumvirate?
Three rulers who share power.
The First Triumvirate included Julius Caesar, Pompey, and Crassus.
Define Latifundia.
A large farming estate.
These estates often relied on slave labor and were significant in the agricultural economy.
What does Pax Romana refer to?
A time of peace in Rome.
This period lasted approximately 200 years, beginning with Emperor Augustus.
What is an Empire?
A group of territories governed by one ruler.
The Roman Empire is one of the most notable examples in history.
What is a Gladiator?
A fighter/soldier in ancient Rome who fought in public arenas for entertainment.
Gladiators could be slaves, prisoners of war, or volunteers seeking fame and fortune.
