The Hebrews believed in monotheism, the belief of only one god.
Why might the Hebrew leader Moses be known as “The Lawgiver”
Since Moses gave the laws, the Ten Commandments, to the Israelites, he is called “The Lawgiver”
What are three ways the judges helped the Hebrews?
They acted as military leaders, helped settle conflicts, and helped keep the 12 tribes united
How did Solomon’s building projects help and Hurt Israel?
Solomon’s temple he built became the center of religious life for the Israelites, where they prayed and left offerings. However high taxes and labor caused disputes, splitting the kingdom which led to Israel being conquered.
What happened to the Israelites after Israel was conquered by the Assyrians?
The kingdom of Israel ended after the Conquer of the Assyrians
How did the Babylonian conquest change the way the people of Judah lived?
Because of the Babylonian conquest, the Jews were captives in Babylon, living 50 years in exile
How did the Maccabee victory affect the government of Judah?
The victory allowed Jews to regain control of Jerusalem, giving them control of their leadership again
Which group of Jews led the fight to resist Roman rule?
The Zealots led the rebellion, or fight
How did the Romans punish the people of Judea for rebelling?
The Romans took Jerusalem and destroyed the Temple of Solomon
How did the Ten Commandments reflect Jewish beliefs?
Some of the commandments, for example the first commandment, shows the Jewish belief of only one god, that there is no other god they believe in

Monotheism, the belief that only one god exists

The synagogues and Yohanan ben Zaccai’s school helped spread Jewish religion of monotheism because people from other places could come to those places and listen and learn about the Jewish religion
