very important. beleived god made them live a better life and they were happier
what did they believe about gods and goddesses?
controlled everything wether it was good or badm each part of a greek’s ;ife was ruled by a different god
what did they believe about temples?
built in every city that was set for one god
if someone needed somethng from a sepfici god they would go to that temple in the other city
priest had the most important job in the town
describe greek architecture
tall columns, intricate detail, symmetry, harmony, balance
what three types of greek columns did you get?
doric, ionic, corinthian
what were these three columns called.

most simple, and thickest. there was no decration at the base and simple at the top

thinner and has a base at the bottome, the top was called the captial and had scrolls on each side

what is a column?
a column supported the roof, and gave buildings a feeling of order , strength and balance.

it was a triangle located at each end of the building between the frieze and the roof

describe the archiac period in full ?
there was no movement, and the limbs were tight against the body. therewas an emphasis on frontality, the cloumns are fluted and made up of marble drums, at the top pf the column sits the capital.
describe the classical period in full
the position of the figure is a naturalistic representation. the arms are freed from the body and movement is emphasized a naturalistic feel. it has technical viruosity, it creats soft shadows created the subtle modelling of the planes suggest the quality of flesh. all opposite parts and intentions of the figure are in counterpoise to one another in exact symmetry. in this periof devloped the ionic order. gods and heros and idealism was depicted alot. there was ideal proportion, and perfection.
describe the hellenistic period in full
there is an emphasis of nautralism and a range og human emotions. emotions were conveyed through expressions and gestures with muscle tensions. marble is used in its extreme technical form. in this time the architechts developed the corinthian order. these achivements in architecture and sculpture that influenced roman art. there is vigorous action in these sculptures. there is relaism and physical suffering.
