Manetho
An Egyptian historian and priest. Wrote a history of Egypt still used today.
Pre-Dynastic period
Equivalent to The Neolithic Period appr. from 6000 B.C, first settlement along the Nile; Includes Menes through Naqada III.

Narmer(Menes)
1st King of the first Dynasty. believed Narmer unified all of Egypt. (Early Dynastic Period)
Den (Pharaoh)
1st to use King of upper and lower Egypt. First to wear double crown. During his reign, first signs of sentences and literature were emerging.
Pharaoh
Literally means “Great House” first was used for the royal palace. now refers to the king.
Ma’at
Means the right way. How things should be. What is right. Often associated with Pharaoh. since it was his job to set order and make sure everything is how it should.
Heb-Sed Festival
Celebration of the 30th year of every king’s reign; Will show that king still has it. After the 30th, you have one every 3 years.
Horus
The Falcon god, mainly worshiped by the kings. Thus became almost like a national god.
Djoser (Pharaoh)
Founder of “Old Kingdom.” first to have a pyramid called a step pyramid.
Imhotep
Expert in architecture, Doctor, and prime minister. Responsible for Djoser pyramid. The inventor of the pyramid.
Mustaba
An ancient tomb for Egyptians. Specially upper class Egyptians.
Snefru (Pharaoh)
4th dynasty of old Kingdom, Perfecter of the smooth sided pyramid. Has three pyramids. 2nd called the bend. 3rd called the “Red Pyramid.”
Cartouche
An oval circle with line at the bottom. Carries the royal name inside, or pharaoh.
Khufu (Pharaoh)
Dynasty 4 con’t during “Old Kingdom” Tomb is the “Great Pyramid at Giza,” believed to be a tyrant. Apex of engineering.
