A mineral or rock that is soft, usually white, translucent, and is often used for carving.
Alabaster
Jars in which the Egyptians put mummified organs in.
Canopic jars
An oval in which a royal name is enclosed in.
Cartouche
A person who is legally recognized by a state. Citizens are protected by a state in exchange for swearing allegiance to it.
Citizen.
To preserve a corpse from decomposition. Originally, it was done through the use of spices.
Embalm
A system in which things are ranked, often by importance.
Hierarchy
A form of writing that was often used by priests in ancient Egypt. It is much simpler than hieroglyphics, and faster to write.
Hieratic
Hieroglyphic characters.
Hieroglyphs
A cosmetic which was used to darken the edges of a person’s eyelids.
Kohl
A corpse which has been preserved post-mortem.
Mummy
A mixture comprised of sodium carbonate and sodium bicarbonate. The ancient Egyptians used it for things such as medicine, cookery, and mummification.
Natron
The study of medical disorders associated with the eye.
Opthalmology
A plant that was essential to the ancient Egyptians, because of how many things were made from it.
Papyrus
An Egyptian monarch. They were the supreme leaders of the land, and they wore a Double Crown.
Pharaoh
A four-sided structure that was built for religious reasons. They are one of the things that Egypt is most known for.
Pyramid
A stone coffin or a container which holds a coffin.
Sarcophagus
A type of hand-operated irrigation device.
Shaduf
A loincloth that was worn in Ancient Egypt. It was similar to a kilt.
Shenti
An ancient Egyptian musical instrument. It was used in dances, as well as religious ceremonies.
Sistra
Boats that were used by the sun god Ra.
Solar boats
An oily substance that is used to treat wounds, burns, and other skin injuries.
Unguent
The highest government official to serve the pharaoh in ancient Egypt.
Vizier
An ancient Egyptian board game.
Zenet
The god of air in ancient Egyptian mythology. He was one of the eight primeval Egyptian gods.
Amun
The fourth Egyptian king of the fourth dynasty. One of the things he is known for is the pyramid that was built for him.
Chefren
The capital city of ancient Egypt.
Memphis
A port city of the Nile Delta. This is where the Rosetta Stone was discovered, hence its name.
Rosetta
The necropolis of Memphis. It contains ancient burial grounds of ancient Egyptian royalty.
Saqarrah
An ancient Egyptian pharaoh who is known for his tomb, which was discovered in the 1900s. He was the youngest person to become the pharaoh, at age 9.
Tutankhamun
An Egyptian city on the west bank of the Nile River. It is known for being the location of the Giza Plateau, where some of the most iconic ancient monuments reside.
Giza
The first pharaoh of Egypt. He is famous for uniting Upper and Lower Egypt, as well as being the founder of Memphis.
Menes
A temple in Luxor, Egypt. It is the largest religious structure today. Its construction began around 4000 years ago, and is dedicated to Amun, Mut, and Khonsu.
Karnak
