Ancient Egypt Flashcards
How did the Nile influence the people of Ancient Egypt?
The Nile gave the Ancient Egyptians somewhere to live, apart from the desert. It provided food, water, recreation, income, pretty much life. Without the flood season, Akhet, the farmers would grow and reap meagre harvests. The flood deposits fresh layers of fertile soil every year, and saturates the ground for them, making it perfect for growing crops.
What are the physical features of Ancient Egypt?
The physical features of Ancient Egypt are the Nile River, it’s delta and the surrounding desert. Some man made features are the pyramids dotted all over, the Valley of the Kings and the cities like crocodiliopolis.
What are the tree seasons of the Nile?
The three seasons of the Nile are Akhet (the flood), Peret (the seed time) and Shemu (the harvest). The Ancient Egyptians based their calendar off these three seasons.
How did the desert influence the people of Ancient Egypt?
The desert in Ancient Egypt was a natural barrier for invaders and barbarians trying to steal the riches of Egypt. It also provided building materials for the many great pyramids, cities and tombs that the Egyptians built, many of them still standing today.
