Old Kingdom
Building of pyramids occurred. (~2700-2200 B.C.)
Middle Kingdom
Characterized by stability of Egypt. (~2100-1700 B.C.)
First Intermediate Period
Caused by decline in centralized authority and some droughts in the Nile. (~2200-2100 B.C.)
Second Intermediate Period
Invasion by Hyksos disrupted Egypt. (~1700-1600 B.C.)
New Kingdom
Final major kingdom of Egypt, Pharaohs such as Hatshepsut (female), Tutankhamen, and Ramses the Great ruled during this time. Valley of the Kings built as major burial site. (~1600-1100 B.C.)
Amarna Period
Started by Akhenaton (Amenhotep IV) Monotheism in Egypt (god Aton), occurred during the New Kingdom, but Egypt went back to many gods after Akhenaton died
