It was dangerous because bandits attacked, there were sudden sandstorms and mirages would lead them off the main path. To overcome this they formed caravans of camels.

It was dangerous because they had to pass through mountains at high altitude that were surrounded by air with low oxygen that caused Headaches, dizziness and ringing in the ears. The mountains had steep and narrow passages. They sometimes needed to unload their animals and carry their goods through the passages.

The silk road created cultural diffusion of language, religion and food. It changed their diets, agriculture, gardening and helped to spread Buddhist beliefs.
