Q

Yangtze River

A

Both rivers flooded, which deposited fertile silt onto the surrounding croplands. This allowed nutritious crops like rice and millet to grow and the population to increase.

  • BUT the flooding was also destructive – people would drown, houses were destroyed, and some crops could be swept away.
  • So, these early societies joined together to try and minimize the flooding. This was an early form of central government.
