- Right and Left LOBES, connected by the ISTHMUS
Describe the Fascia of the Thyroid?
PRETRACHEAL FASCIA
What is the Pretracheal Fascia? What are its 2 parts?
Part of the DEEP CERVICAL FASCIA
Composed of PARIETAL and VISCERAL component
What is Contained within the PRETRACHEAL FASCIA?
Muscles- Sternothyroid, Omothyroid, Omohyoid
Organs- Thyroid, Trachea, Pharynx and Larynx
What are the RELATIONS of the Thyroid?
ANTERIOR- Pretracheal Fascia, Strap Muscles, Sternocleidomastoid Muscles
LATERAL- Carotid Sheath (Common Carotid Artery, Vagus Nerve, Internal Jugular Vein)
POSTERIOR- Larynx,Trachea Pharynx and Oesophagus
Where is the THYROID ISTHMUS located in relation to the Trachea?
The Isthmus overlies the 2nd and 3rd Rings of the Trachea
What is the ARTERIAL SUPPLY of the Thyroid?
Superior Thyroid Artery
Inferior Thyroid Artery
Thyroid Ima Artery
Where does the SUPERIOR THYROID ARTERY come from?
External Carotid Artery
(Passes to the Upper pole of the Thyroid)
Where does the INFERIOR THYROID ARTERY come from?
Subclavian Artery
(Passes behind the Carotid Sheath to the Back of the Thyroid)
Where does the THYROID IMA ARTERY come from?
Aortic Arch or Brachiocephalic Artery
