What is the sagittal plane?
The plane that divides the body into left and right, also known as the median.
What is the coronal plane?
The coronal plane divides the body into dorsal and ventral parts, also known as frontal plane.
What is the horizontal plane?
The horizontal plane divides the body into superior and inferior parts, also known as the transverse plane.
What is superior?
Closer to the head.
What is inferior?
Closer to the feet.
What is medial?
Closer to the midline.
What is lateral?
Away from the midline.
What is ventral?
Towards the belly side, also known as anterior.
What is dorsal?
Towards the back, also known as posterior.
What is proximal?
Closer to a specific point.
What is distal?
Further away from a specific point.
What is superficial?
Closer to the surface.
What is deep?
Not close to the surface.
What does the root CARD- mean?
Heart.
What does the root PHLEB- mean?
Veins.
What does the root ANGI- mean?
Vessels.
What do the prefixes a-, an-, and de- mean?
No; Without.
What do the prefixes anti-, contra- mean?
Against; Opposite.
What does the prefix bi- mean?
Two.
What do the prefixes ecto-, ex-, exo-, extra- mean?
Out, On Outside.
What do the prefixes endo-, intra-, and intro- mean?
Within.
What does the prefix epi- mean?
Upon.
What does the prefix hemi- mean?
Half.
