Anatomy Quiz Nervous System and Neurons Flashcards
What does in Nervous system Include?
Includes the brain, spinal cord, and nerves
What is the overall function of the Nervous System?
To both send and receive information, maintaining homeostasis
What does the Sensory do?
Receives information
What does the integrative do?
Determines where the information is being sent
What does the Motor do?
Responds to signals
What are the TWO divisions of the Nervous System?
Central Nervous System (CNS) and Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)
What does the Central Nervous System include?
The Brain and Spinal Cord
What does the Peripheral Nervous System include?
Peripheral Nerves through the body, 31 pairs of SPINAL NERVES, 12 pairs of CRANIAL NERVES
What does the Somatic Nervous System include?
Skeletal, voluntary (Controlled movement)
What does the Autonomic Nervous System include?
Smooth muscles, glands, involuntary (Uncontrolled movement)
What does Parasympathetic mean?
Rest and Digest
What does Sympathetic mean?
Fight or Flight
What is a Neuron?
A mass of nerve cells that transmit information (The functional unit of the Nervous System)
What does the Cell Body contain?
Contains the Nucleus and other cell organelles
What does the Dendrites do?
They are shorter, more numerous, and receive information
What do the Axons do?
Single long fibers that conduct information away
What does the Chromatophilic do?
They are the Transport System
What does Myelin do?
Insulates surrounding axons
What are the Nodes of Ranvier
The gaps in the insulation
What are Neurofibrils?
Fibers within the Axon
What does Neuroglial Cells do?
Support Cells
What is the function of Microglial Cells?
The immune function, digest debris, and kill bacteria
What is the function of Oligodendrocytes?
Make Myelin sheath that provides insulation for Axons in the Central Nervous System!
What is the function of Astrocytes?
Connect Blood Vessels to Neurons
