Anatomy, Physiology, Pathophysiology Flashcards
Lecture 1
Define anatomy
Branch of biology concerned with the study of organisms and their parts
Define physiology
Science that is concerned with the function of the living organism and its parts and of the physical and chemical processes involved.
Define pathophysiology.
Science of disordered physiological processes associated with disease or injury.
Explain the relationship between cells, tissues, organs, and organ systems.
Cells are the building block of all living organisms. Once cells differentiate they become specialized cell types. These specialized cell types come together and form a tissue. These specialized tissues then join together and form a specific organ. This organ functions in a specific way with other organs, thus, termed an organ system.
What are the 5 stages of molecular organization?
- genetic programming
- Transcription Factors
- Transcription
- Translation
- Protein production
Where does transcription take place in a cell?
Nucleus
Where does translation happen in a cell?
Cytoplasm
Where does protein production happen in a cell?
Ribosome
