Anatomy/physiology Flashcards
What embryologic structure makes up the ligamentum teres?
obliterated umbilical vein
Which vessel divides the liver into right and left hemilivers?
middle hepatic vein
What is the hepatic venous drainage of the caudate?
number of posterior small veins drain directly into the IVC
A lesion on left side gallbladder, medial and posterior to ligament of teres with L branch of portal vein running transversely below, represents what Couinaud segment?
segment 4
Which divides the left lobe of the liver into anterior and posterior sections? Which segments are in each section?
-divided by left scissura which runs behind the ligament of teres and contains L hepatic vein
-anterior section = segment 3 laterally, segment 4 medially
-posterior section = segment 2
Which vessel runs transversely at the base of segment 4 and into the umbilical fissure?
left branch of the portal vein
Which liver lesion is more commonly seen in women of childbearing age and OCP use?
hepatic adenoma
-typically benign
-can cause pain d/t size
-can have malignant degeneration
Which subtype of hepatic adenoma has a higher risk of malignant degeneration?
-beta-catenin
-also when found in men
What is the most common benign hepatic tumor?
hemangiomas
What CT finding distinguishes a hepatic hemangioma?
early enhancement of periphery (also hear “centripetal enhancement)
What CT finding distinguishes focal nodular hyperplasia?
homogeneous enhancement in the arterial phase and central (stellate) scarring
What CT finding distinguishes hepatocellular carcinoma?
arterial enhancement and washout in the portal venous phase
What CT finding distinguishes hepatic adenoma?
heterogeneous appearance and arterial phase enhancement w/ smooth surface
