Anatomy & Physiology Flashcards
It is the structures of the body…
Anatomy
It is how the structures of the body functions work independently or together …
Physiology
What is an Anatomic Reference System?
It is used to describe locations of structural units of the body.
What is an anatomic position like?
• Body erect
• Facing forward
• Holding arms at sides with palms hands facing forward
• Legs slightly apart
What are the 3 body planes and what are their differences?
• Midsagittal - divides the body into equal left and right
• Transverse - divides the body into upper and lower portions
• Frontal - divides the body into from front and back portions
What are the 12 Body Direction Terms and what do they refer to?
- VENTRAL — front of the organ/body
- DORSAL — back of the organ/body
- ANTERIOR — in the front/front of
- POSTERIOR — in the back/back of
- SUPERIOR— uppermost, above, or toward the head
- INFERIOR — lowermost, below, or toward the feet
- CEPHALIC — toward the head
- CAUDAL — toward the lower part of the body
- PROXIMAL — situated nearest the midline or beginning of the structure
- DISTAL — farthest from the midline or beginning of the structure
- MEDIAL — toward or neared the midline
- LATERAL — toward or nearer the side of the body, away from the midline
What are the 7 Major Body Cavities?
- DORSAL CAVITY — located along the back of the body & head — divided into 2 portions;
- CRANIAL CAVITY
- SPINAL CAVITY
- VENTRAL CAVITY — located along the front of the body — divided into 3 parts;
- THORACIC CAVITY
- ABDOMINAL CAVITY
- PELVIC CAVITY
Regions of Thorax & Abdomen …
- RIGHT & LEFT HYPOCHONDRIAC REGIONS — covered by lower ribs
- EPIGASTRIC REGION — above the stomach
- RIGHT & LEFT LUMBAR REGIONS — near inward curve of the spine
- UMBILICAL REGION — surrounds the umbilicus
- RIGHT & LEFT ILIAC REGIONS — over the hip bones
- HYPOGASTRIC REGIONS — below the stomach
it is the basic structural & functional units that when grouped together form tissues & organs…
Cells
a group or layer of similarly specialized cells that has 4 main types that are called…
Tissues — Epithelial, Connective, Muscular, Nervous
performs specific functions …
Body Organs
organization of the body organs w specialized functions…
