Q

Protection

A
  • provides a barrier to fluid loss from the body; intact skin prevents the entry of microorganisms into the body; melanin absorbs UV, preventing harm to layers below
    -Protects the DNA in Keratinocytes
    -Protective Barrier

Q

How we Tan

A

Q

Types of burns

A

First Degree Burn (first layer)
Kills superficial cells of epidermis
Injures deeper layers of epidermis, papillary dermis

Second Degree Burn (2 layers)
Kills superficial & deeper cells of epidermis, can affect dermis
Can injure reticular layer of dermis; does not affect accessory structures

Third Degree Burn (3 layers)
Kills all epidermal & dermal cells
Injures hypodermis, deeper tissues, organs

Q

Rule of nine

A

Rule of nine is a rule that allows emergency doctors able to quickly assess the degree and amount of your skin that is burned

Arms: each side is 4.5%
Head: each side is 4.5%
legs: each side is 9%
torso: each side is !8%
