Anatomy of the liver - Kumar Flashcards
1
Q
What region of the abdomen is the liver found?
A
• right hypochondrium
2
Q
Describe the lobes of the liver.
A
- Left and right lobe separated by middle hepatic vein
- Right lobe is separated into caudate (I lobe) and quadrate lobes
- 8 subdivisions: II-IV left hemiliver, V-VIII right hemiliver
- Subdivided by divisions of right, middle and left hepatic veins
- Each segment has own portal pedicle, permitting individual segment resection surgery
3
Q
What 2 vessels deliver the hepatic blood supply?
A
- The hepatic artery (25%)
* The portal vein (75%)
4
Q
How does the blood through the liver?
A
- From the hepatic artery and portal vein, blood is distributed into the 8 segments and flows into the sinusoids via the portal tracts.
- Blood leaves the sinusoids into branches of the hepatic vein, which join into 3 main branches before entering the IVC.
5
Q
What is the functional hepatic unit?
A
• Acinus
6
Q
What regulates sinusoidal blood flow?
A
• Stellate cells
7
Q
Where does the gall bladder lie?
A
• Under the right lobe of the liver
8
Q
Where does the common bile duct drain?
A
• The second part of the duodenum at the ampulla of Vater (which contains the muscular sphincter of Oddi)
