Anatomy of the Heart 1 Flashcards
Medial and lateral definitions?
towards and away from the midline
Proximal definition?
Towards the centre of the body
Distal definition?
Further from the body
Sagittal definition?
To the side
Frontal (coronal) definition?
separates into proximal and distal
What is the mediastinum?
The heart sits in the mediastinum between the right and left pleural cavities
Describe the structure of the pericardium?
Consists of two layers: Fibrous and serous
The serous has two parts: parietal lines the fibrous layer and the visceral lines the heart.
There is pericardial fluid between the parietal and visceral layers.
Describe pulmonary trunk anatomy
Bifurcates into the left and right pulmonary arteries
What are the bifurcations of the aortic arch?
- brachiocephalic trunk
- left common carotid
- left common subclavian
What does the brachiocephalic trunk bifucate into?
- right subclavian artery
- right common carotid
Describe the brachiocephalic vein anatomy?
Left internal jugular vein and left subclavian vein form the left brachiocephalic vein. Same on the other side so the two brachiocephalic veins join to form the descending vena cava
Cusps of the tricuspid valve?
- anterior
- septal
- posterior
Cusps of the pulmonary valve?
- anterior seminlunar
- left semilunar
- right semilunar
Cusps of the mitral valve?
- anterior
- posterior
Where is the origin of the right coronary artery?
Just above the right cusps of the aortic valve
